Ilja Richard Pavone

Ilja Richard Pavone is Senior Researcher of International Law at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), Rome, and Professor of European Law and Biotechnologies at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. He has been several times visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Public Comparative Law and International Law (Heidelberg) and in other foreign universities (such as, for instance, Bochum University, Brisbane University and New York University). In the past, he has taught at the universities of Macerata, Rome (Sapienza), Siena Venice (Venice International University), and Viterbo (La Tuscia). Dr. Pavone is an active member of the European Society of International Law (ESIL), and he has served as a member of the Coordinating Committee of the ESIL Interest Group on Peace & Security. He is author of 'Global Pandemics and International Law: An Analysis in the Age of COVID-19', Routledge, London, 2023. He has published several articles on NATO, Weapons of Mass Destruction, the secession of Crimea, the Syirian civil war and doctrine of Responsibility to Protect (R2P), infectious diseases and new threats to peace and security.
